Cataloguing & Classification

“thank you you for an inspiring day yesterday. You make it seem so effortless and I come away thinking I must give all your ideas a go!”

These courses concentrate on the skills needed for cataloguing resources in a school library. They are suitable for librarians new to the school sector or newly qualified. Library assistants and teachers involved in this aspect of library management will also find the courses useful. The courses are not an in depth guide to Dewey or any other cataloguing system but concentrate on adapting cataloguing to a schools environment, learning about classification, selecting keywords and an overview of automated systems. The courses are highly practical in delivery and the exercises can be used to teach students and staff to help with library orientation. The courses are fully supported with handouts and links to downloads of the materials used.

I am also a trainer for the Accessit Software Library Management System and can be contacted for full or half day sessions for individuals or groups. I have used the system as a school librarian since 2000 and train regularly for the company too for new customers, existing users and those moving to a school with this library management system in place.
